Mindful Monday, Tale of the Teeth

Tale of teeth and the dentist.  (Don’t worry, no gory detail).

 

I went off one morning not looking forward to …..  Yes, Dentist & Hygienist day!

My hygienist told me that my back teeth were loose, that I had weak gums and that along my bottom teeth, the gums were receding.  I could feel this when I rubbed my tongue on them.

She said I might need some work done and possibly pulling my wisdom teeth out….

Teeth cleaned & polished, she said “see you in four months”.

I was determined not to have my wisdom teeth out or any other teeth pulled out for that matter.

I started to floss every night. I did my usual teeth maintenance. In the morning I brushed with a hand held brush, taking time to get to the wisdom teeth.  In the evening, I used an electric toothbrush not on the highest setting. And I flossed.

I also started to speak to my teeth and gums, telling them to heal.

I made up statements, positive affirmations which I repeated to myself.

“I have healthy teeth and strong and healthy gums.”

I started to imagine healthy teeth not thinking of them in a negative way.

I massaged my teeth and gums with my tongue, as often as I thought about it.

Four months later, another day to look forward to with the hygienist.

I sat in the chair, she had a good look, she rooted around, not saying much.

After a while, she said with some surprise, “Your gums are healthy and you have no wobbly teeth. And along the bottom teeth, you have no receding gums.

All cleaned and polished. See you in 6 months.”

Moral of the story: You can heal yourself.
